Smithland Lock
and Dam - Hamletsburg
Off Hwy. 45 south near Brookport

  These are the largest locks of its kind and can handle any size tow that is on the river

 

 Sand Cave - Eddyville
North of Glendale, west of Eddyville

  High bluff area with a large cave the size of a basketball court.  Access to hiking and trail riding.


 
Millstone Bluff- Robbs
Between Robbs and Glendale on Rt. 147 north side of road

  This area is believed to have been occupied by the Mississippi Indians from 1000-1500 A.D. 
New City Park - Golconda, West of Levee on Rt. 146
  This park offers a variety of recreation activities.
Burden Falls - Delwood
4 mi. west of Delwood off Rt. 45

  A beautiful scenic waterfall with available parking and picnic area.
 
Kincaid Mounds - Brookport  6.7 mi. off Rt. 45 at Brookport
  "Templed City on the Ohio" has 19 prehistoric Indian mounds extending one mile north of the road along Avery Lake.

Jackson Hollow - Simpson
North off Rt. 147 at Simpson

  A network of shelter bluffs, caves, waterfalls and sheer cliffs.  Considerable hiking required to view this area. Indian Kitchen - Eddyville
  One of Illinois' 17 natural land marks this stands out as one of the best preserved ancient Indian stone walls in Illinois.

Pope County Deer Festival -
Golconda

  Golconda is the deer capital of Illinois and every year in November (1st Deer Season) the town hosts a 4 day celebration .  Included is a 3 day deer hunt, pit BBQ, crowning of the "Deer Queen", booths, games, and crafts.

4th of July Celebration - Eddyville
  4 days of rides and games and pit BBQ.  Gigantic fireworks display and live entertainment every night of the celebration.

Nine Day Trail Ride - Eichorn
One Horse Gap off Rt. 34 at Eichorn

  Nine days of camping and riding.  Utilizes the river to river trail.  A must for riding enthusiasts.  Ride begins the last weekend in July and end first weekend in August.

Fall Festival - Golconda
  This festival celebrated on the courthouse lawn the second Sunday of October features arts & crafts, food booths, entertainment, and a quilt show.

Farmers Market
Courthouse Lawn - Golconda

  Area citizens and farmers gather every Saturday of late Spring to early Fall showcasing their prized possessions.  From crafts to billy-goats almost everything is on the market.

River to River Relay
Golconda
 
Teams of eight runners compete on an 80-mile course.  The race starts at Pine Hills, on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi Valley and ends at the Ohio River in Golconda.

16 mi. south of Harrisburg

  Tent and RV camping

Bell Smith Springs - Delwood
Exit I-24 at Vienna and travel 12 mi. east on Rt. 45 North through Ozark

  Tent and RV camping, Isolated area.  3 acre fish pond.

Burden Falls - Delwood
4 mi. west of Delwood off Rt. 145

  No camping.  Falls about 100 feet from road.


Dixon Springs State Park - Golconda
Rt. 146 - 10 mi. west of Golconda

  Tent and RV camping.  Once a 19th century health spa the 7mineral springs still exist today.

Lake Glendale Recreation Area - Robbs
3 mi. north of Rt. 145 & 146
Junction

  Tent and RV camping.  Handicapped facilities, swimming.  One of the clearest lakes in the state.

Lusk Creek - Golconda
Access off bridge on Eddyville/Golconda Road

  No camping.  Scenic canoeing and swimming.  A must see.


Golconda Marina - Golconda
East off Rt. 146 north of Golconda

  One of the Ohio's finest marinas.  Full docking facilities - rentals - gas - launch on mooring.  On Lusk Creek at the Ohio River basin.

One Horse Gap Lake
North 4 mi. west off Rt. 34 - 2.5 mi. north of Rt. 146

  Tent and RV camping.  Horse trails, hiking, swimming.
